Island Attractions

Stornoway is the main town in the island and in addition to the usual shopping and eating outlets has a number of interesting facilities such as the Lanntair Arts Centre, a well stocked library with a large reference section, a museum, a leisure centre and playparks. The Lews Castle grounds can be seen across the bay from the cottage. Within the grounds there is an 18 hole golf course, interesting woodland walks and the Woodlands Cafe. The Iolaire Memorial is approximately half a mile from the house along a well surfaced path,

On the west side of Lewis visitors will find attractions such as the famous Callanish Stones, the Carloway Broch and the Arnol Blackhouse.

The island provides a large variety of opportunities for fishing and bird watching. Sea fishing trips are available as are cruises around the island where dolphins, whales and many types of sea birds may be seen. The many beaches in Lewis and Harris are among some of the finest in Scotland.
